"The individual attention provided by the instructors helped to focus my work and (gave me) a sense of what it's like to work in the professional world."
—Jorge Arteaga
2010 Graduate, Associate of Occupational Studies, Graphic Design, The Art Institute of New York City
As a designer for Bartle Bogle Hegarty in New York City, Jorge Arteaga is responsible for designing visuals and various media. He works with a creative team that includes an art director and copywriter to review concepts and visual designs for client projects. “I work with some of the top creatives in the business, and it is fascinating to go in every day and collaborate with them on fun and interesting projects,” he says.
Jorge, who in 2010 earned an Associate of Occupational Studies degree in Graphic Design from The Art Institute of New York City, is proud that he was able to land at an agency that he considers to be “one of the top creative agencies out there.” He admits that he worked very hard to get his work to a place that would stand up to the level of professionalism demanded by a major agency. Jorge believes that his job is a true calling, asserting that he feels that people in the advertising business have a drive to create compelling and innovative experiences that do more than just sell a product.
He credits his education at The Art Institute of New York City with helping him to prepare for his real world career. “The individual attention provided by the instructors helped to focus my work and (gave me) a sense of what it's like to work in the professional world,” he states. Jorge recommends that budding designers only pursue a job in the industry if they are committed to the work. “It is a constant struggle to create good innovative work that connects with people, and it takes those with passion to make it a reality.”
